Asakusa, known as a lively downtown area.
It is a treasure trove of attractions, including Sensoji Temple, Kaminarimon Gate, the Asahi Group’s headquarters, and restaurants serving dishes like dojo hot pot.
Its uniquely traditional streets, rich in Japanese culture, attract visitors from all over the world.
Currently, the hottest spot in Asakusa is Hoppy Street (personal opinion from this alcohol-loving writer).
Hoppy Street, located on the west side of the Sensoji Temple grounds, is an 80-meter stretch lined with izakayas that exude a nostalgic Showa-era vibe. Some of these establishments even offer “senbero” options, where you can get tipsy for just ¥1,000.
This time, Tokyo Local introduces 9 recommended izakayas near Hoppy Street where you can enjoy day drinking.
We hope this article helps you indulge in the guilty pleasure of daytime drinking to the fullest!

Kamiya Bar
Established in the Meiji era. Enjoy “Denki Bran” at Japan’s first bar
Kamiya Bar has a rich history, dating back to 1880.
Located immediately outside Exit 3 of the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Asakusa Station, this historic establishment is a familiar sight to many who’ve visited Asakusa.
The premises consist of Kamiya Bar on the first floor, Restaurant Kamiya on the second, and Kappo Kamiya on the third, allowing you to choose the dining experience that suits your mood.
If you visit Asakusa, this is a must-stop spot.
The highlight here is undoubtedly Denki Bran.
This cocktail, created by Kamiya Bar founder Denbei Kamiya, originally had an alcohol content of 45% (now reduced to 30%).
The name combines “Denki” (electric), inspired by the tingling sensation from its high alcohol content, and “Bran,” short for brandy.
The cocktail blends gin, wine, curaçao, and herbs. It’s even mentioned in literary works by Osamu Dazai and Ryunosuke Akutagawa.
Knowing the history behind it makes it taste even better!
A perfect dish to accompany Denki Bran might be the crab cream croquettes.
The retro yet chic interior makes this a great spot for couples on a date.

Nihon Eiko Sakaba Rocky Kanai Asakusa Yokocho
Indoor Dining with Affordable Senbero and Nisenbero Options!
Located on the 4th floor of the Tokyo Rakutenchi Asakusa Building near Asakusa Roku District, this spot is part of “Asakusa Yokocho,” inside the Richmond Hotel.
“Asakusa Yokocho” includes a variety of specialized eateries, such as unagi (eel), sushi, and Korean food, but this restaurant focuses on meat dishes and serves as a classic izakaya.
And the store has Senbero and Nisenbero Options:
・Senbero : 1,000 yen includes 2 drinks and 2 food items.
・Nisenbero: 2,000 yen includes 3 drinks and 2 food items.
What’s remarkable about their senbero/nisenbero option is that the first drink is served in a mega-sized glass!
Effectively, this means senbero offers drinks equivalent to 3 regular glasses, and nisenbero equals 4 glasses—an incredible deal.
For food items for both senbero and nisenbero, one of the two dishes is always “kebab salad,” while the other changes daily.
As one of the food item changes daily, you can come back to enjoy senbero everyday.
When the author visited, they received “quail eggs marinated in garlic soy sauce,” which had a bold flavor that paired wonderfully with alcohol.
For those who want to enjoy senbero indoors and at a relaxed pace, this is a great option.
