Asakusa Temple (Sensō-ji)
When you think of Asakusa, the first thing that probably comes to mind is Asakusa Temple (Sensō-ji), right?
It’s one of the most famous temples, not only in Tokyo but across Japan, attracting visitors from all parts of the country and even many overseas tourists.
It is a popular dating spot, too, due to its association with auspicious meanings! The grounds are vast, and after passing through the Kaminarimon Gate, you’ll find the Denboin Temple and Chingo Hall to your left and Benten Hill to your right.
As you continue straight ahead, you’ll come across the Nakamise Street, Hozomon Gate, and Main Hall, along with a Five-Storied Pagoda, making this area a perfect sightseeing spot.
Since you’re at Asakusa Temple, you definitely don’t want to miss visiting the shops lining both sides of Nakamise Street. Among many stores, “Asakusa Kibi Dango Azuma” is a must-visit.
The chewy treats wrapped in zodiac-themed packaging make for perfect souvenirs.
Additionally, the popular Omikuji (fortune slips) are beloved by visitors of all generations, so you’ll definitely enjoy trying your luck.

Imado Shrine
Imado Shrine, which is especially popular among couples living in Tokyo, is a renowned spot for romance.
The shrine gained even more recognition after appearing in the TV drama “Love Lasts Forever,” starring Moe Kamishiraishi and Takeru Sato.
In the drama, the couple buys protective charms at Imado Shrine in the first episode, and by the final episode, they both visit to pray, leaving an unforgettable impression on the viewers.
Founded in 1063, the shrine has a long history, and visiting it with your partner while reflecting on the past will undoubtedly deepen your bond. Known for its blessings related to matchmaking, Imado Shrine is perfect for couples or anyone seeking a connection.
For friends and families, the shrine is also full of “maneki-neko” (lucky cats) that are found throughout the grounds, so don’t forget to make a wish.
If you decide to pray here, you can ask for blessings like “success in exams,” “good relationships,” or even “safe childbirth” or “vehicle cleansing.”

Asakusa Hanayashiki
Asakusa Hanayashiki is the oldest amusement park in Japan, dating back to 1853. With its nostalgic Showa-era vibe, this beloved local amusement park has managed to survive and thrive throughout the years.
It offers a variety of attractions, including the “Roller Coaster,” “Little Star,” and “Disk O,” which are thrilling but not overwhelming. These attractions are perfect for couples who want to enjoy the excitement without going overboard.
One of the writer’s personal favorites is the “Haunted House,” which isn’t too scary, making it ideal for couples to share a laugh while still enjoying the thrills.
The park also offers food, so you won’t have to worry about getting hungry. Several vendors offer fast food and desserts, such as “Dom Dom Hamburgers” and “Marion Crepes.”
If you’re looking for a fun date in Tokyo with both attractions and food, Asakusa Hanayashiki is a great choice.

When it comes to an Asakusa date, don’t miss out on “senbero” (cheap drinks)!

You can enjoy casual drinks from the afternoon at extremely low prices, a signature feature of Asakusa!

Komagata Dozeu Main Store
Komagata Dozeu Honten is a famous and long-established restaurant in Asakusa. If you’re in Asakusa, you have to try Dozeu Nabe (a stew made with loach fish).
The loach here doesn’t have any unpleasant smell, and it’s delicious to eat in big bites. A recommended topping is burdock root, which, combined with loach and green onions, creates an amazing taste.
Even if you’ve never had loach before or you’re not fond of it, you’ll surely love it after trying the one at this restaurant.
This is one of the top places I highly recommend.

Jingisukan (genghis khan) Kirishima Asakusa Store
“Jingisukan Kirishima Asakusa Store” is, as the name suggests, a restaurant where you can eat Jingisukan (a type of grilled lamb dish).
Asakusa has various types of eateries, but unlike others, I personally think it’s great to try a dish with a slight unique flavor… especially as you get older, the “first-time experiences” you tend to forget will become wonderful memories.
The meat here is lamb, not mutton, so the distinctive flavor of Jingisukan is milder. The lamb, with a milky fragrance, is absolutely delicious.
While the menu offers individual dishes, the course meals are highly recommended.
With all-you-can-drink options included in the course, you can enjoy eating and drinking heartily.
This is a perfect spot to wrap up a date, so after a fun time in Asakusa, be sure to visit!

Yozora (night-sky) Dining Asakusa
If you’re looking for a relaxed adult dinner date in Asakusa, Yozora Dining Asakusa is the place with a great reputation.
The panoramic view from the interior of the restaurant has an irresistible charm, making you feel like you’re in a dream, and you can enjoy the view of the Tokyo Skytree.
You can even feel the heartbeat of the water rippling on the surface, so you’re sure to have an enchanting time while dining.
Of course, the attraction of the night view is a big plus, but the large glass-paneled interior, with its “stylish sofa and tatami seating,” makes it perfect for a date and a hidden gem.
There’s another reason why TOKYO LOCAL recommends Yozora Dining as a date spot.
The reason is the menu that will make women go “aww”—the “Tomato and Prosciutto Caesar Salad.”
The salad is arranged in a wooden bowl with tomatoes and vegetables scattered, which is quite normal.
However, the prosciutto in the center is beautifully presented with a rose-like arrangement, making your partner exclaim, “This is Instagram-worthy! So cute!” and snap a photo.
On the other hand, the course is reasonably priced. An all-you-can-drink course for just over ¥3,000, offering great cost performance!

Umemura
Umemura is a well-known shop for its Mamekan (bean jelly).
Mamekan is a traditional Japanese dessert made with adzuki beans and agar-agar, a type of jelly.
The beans used are salted beans, and you eat them with sweet black syrup. It’s an absolute must-try for anyone who usually eats Western sweets.
In addition to Mamekan, they also offer other desserts like “Anzu Mitsumame” (apricot and bean jelly) and “Tokoroten” (a jelly-like food made from agar), all of which are exquisite.
For those who aren’t fond of sweets, there’s also Tokoroten, so it’s a great idea for a couple to order different items—perhaps the boyfriend gets Tokoroten and the girlfriend orders Mamekan.
One point to note is that they are closed on Sundays.
Be sure to visit on weekdays or Saturdays.

SUKEMASA COFFEE
For enjoying a daytime date in Asakusa, SUKEMASA COFFEE is a must-remember spot for both men and women.
This hidden gem, located in a back alley of Asakusa, is a spot to keep an eye out for.
The exterior has a wooden door, and the interior is designed to give you a warm, wooden feel. In this charming café, you can forget about time while enjoying their signature coffee.
Latte and espresso are popular menu items and are especially recommended for their authentic taste.
They also offer popular coffee drinks like Americano, Macchiato, and Café Mocha.
Other options include Calpis Latte, so if you enjoy lattes, you’ll be able to fully indulge in a delightful café experience.
On top of that, their light meals are also worth noting. You can’t miss their sandwiches and sweets.
A favorite among women is the Amaou Sandwich, which uses large, juicy strawberries, paired perfectly with red bean paste and cream—an irresistible treat.
Also, the pumpkin pudding’s sweetness is highly recommended.
The meringue topping on the pudding is “artfully crafted and cute,” which has been praised by female customers.
If you’re going on a date in Asakusa, SUKEMASA COFFEE is definitely a great spot to visit.
